A practical workflow

How to use it

  1. 01

    Enter 12 or 13 digits

Use data-only mode for twelve digits or verification mode for the full number.

  2. 02

    Review the check digit

Resolve any mismatch in the source record rather than silently changing an assigned GTIN.

  3. 03

    Export at a tested size

Keep quiet zones, avoid non-uniform scaling and scan a physical sample.

Avoid rework

Common errors and precise fixes

Thirteen digits with a wrong final digit

The weighted modulo-10 calculation does not match the supplied check digit.

Compare the first twelve digits to the source and calculate the expected final digit.

Confusing an internal number with GTIN-13

An arbitrary 13-digit number can satisfy the checksum without being assigned for retail use.

Confirm assignment separately; use Code 128 for unrestricted internal alphanumeric identifiers when appropriate.

Know the limits

BatchLabel does not issue GTIN-13 identifiers or verify company ownership.

A structurally valid value and clear preview do not replace a print-quality test.

Questions, answered

Before you continue

Can I enter only 12 digits?

Yes. BatchLabel calculates the EAN-13 check digit and shows the complete 13-digit value before generation.

Is EAN-13 the same as a UPC?

They belong to the GTIN family but have different common representations and data lengths. Use the format required by the receiving system rather than trimming or adding digits casually.
